Melissa L. Bennett- Assistant Principal

About Me:

The 2023-2024 school year will be my 4th year in Quinlan I.S.D., and it will mark my 21st year in education.

This will also be my 4th year as Assistant Principal at Thompson Middle School.

I graduated from Texas A&M University-Commerce with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies-Mathematics in May of 2000 and a Master of Science in Educational Administration in December of 2006.

I completed the Principal /Mid-Management Certification Program, and I received my Principal EC-12 Certification in 2012.  

Beyond my degrees, I have continued to supplement my learning and growth, by taking additional college courses through the University of Texas at Dallas and through Texas A&M-University-Commerce in areas related to computer science and mathematics. I have completed technical courses through Flat Iron Academy in software engineering and development. I am currently in the process of pursuing and beginning an additional masters degree in "Informatics & Data Sciences." 

Prior to moving to this area and working for Quinlan ISD,  I spent six years in Sunnyvale ISD, where I worked as a mathematics teacher and as the high school computer science/STEM program coordinator/teacher.

Before Sunnyvale ISD, I worked as a School Improvement and Secondary Mathematics Consultant and Instructional Coach for Region 10 Education Service Center (R10 ESC).  I served R10 ESC for a year and a half.

Before I moved to Region 10 ESC, I worked for Mesquite ISD. I started my career and served Mesquite ISD for 10 years as a secondary mathematics teacher, and I acted in many roles including but not limited to: team leader/department head, district/campus level professional development writer and presenter, and district level curriculum and assessment writing in areas related to secondary mathematics. 

On a personal note- I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 22 years. His name is Kyle. He owns and manages a commercial and residential construction company-working in the DFW and surrounding areas. 

We have three children: Kaydee (a college sophomore and softball player at Abilene Christian University),

Drew (a high school senior)

and last but not least...Daniel ( an 8th grader).

I love gardening, cooking, and doing just about anything outdoors.

We have a pet bunny and a dog, as well as lots of cows and fish.

I am extremely competitive. It doesn't matter if it is in sports, academics or fine arts. 

I commit to love and grow your child to the best of my ability, and I will encourage them to get involved as much as possible.

I look forward to serving the stakeholders of Quinlan ISD this school year. GO PANTHERS!
